The cost of the average household energy bill will soar by 80% in October, with forecasters predicting the price cap will hit £4,000 in January 2023 before exceeding £5,000 in April — meaning energy bills will have increased by a staggering 450% over the last two years.

We are looking down the barrel of some bleak winters across Britain for millions of households already beset by a cost of living crisis.
