Furious LGA attacks Universal Support decision

Smith Square has penned a stinging rebuke to a senior civil servant over Whitehall’s shock decision to strip responsibility for Universal Support from councils.

Councils had reacted with dismay after the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) announced that Citizens’ Advice had been awarded a £39m contract to help claimants adapt to Universal Credit (UC) from April 2019 despite bureaux not having full national coverage.
