Future funding for local government has never been so uncertain

As we kick off our budget-setting process for next year and beyond, I can’t recall a time when future funding for local government has been so uncertain.

It is now almost a decade since the Government’s funding formula distributed grant based upon assessed needs and resources and, in that time, revenue support grant has all but disappeared, leaving us with council tax, business rates and the New Homes Bonus, as well as a handful of smaller grants that come and go without warning!
