Gordon Brown: Let local regions form own EU deals

Gordon Brown has called for greater devolution of financial powers to local regions, including freedoms to make new deals with the EU.

The former prime minister said areas within the United Kingdom should be freed from ‘the dead hand of central control’ and allowed to ‘take control of regional policy expenditure and social fund expenditure’ or ‘make their own relationships with the European Union in a way that is in their best interests’.
