Hopes rise for Belfast 'City Deal'

Belfast has submitted its proposals for a ‘City Deal’ worth more than £1bn to Chancellor Philip Hammond ahead of the Budget.

Belfast City Council and surrounding councils are hoping the Chancellor will give the 10-year investment the go-ahead.  Six councils on the eastern side of Northern Ireland, along with universities and higher education institutions, believe they can deliver 20,000 jobs if the deal is secured.
