How mission-led design can support councils levelling up

I n February, the Labour Party announced their manifesto for the upcoming General Election. The manifesto is structured around five so-called ‘missions’: secure the highest sustained growth in the G7; make Britain a clean energy superpower; build an NHS fit for the future; make Britain’s streets safe and break down barriers to opportunity at every stage.

The Conservative Government is also delivering programmes of work through missions. For example, the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill (introduced in May 2022) is structured around 12 missions aiming, among other things, to increase pay and productivity, improve public transport, and narrow the regional gap in healthy life expectancy.
