Jenrick hails 'biggest multi-billion pound spending increase in a decade'

Local government secretary Robert Jenrick has confirmed what he describes as the ‘biggest multi-billion pound spending increase for councils in a decade’.

Announcing the provisional English local government finance settlement for 2020/21 today – delayed by more than two weeks because of the election – Whitehall said local authorities would receive a share of £49.1bn funding, which represents an increase of almost £3bn in core spending power.

The figures were previously announced in September’s Spending Round.
