LGA backs audit fee freeze despite pressure

Smith Square has backed holding external audit fees for local government at a lower level despite pressure for a price hike to improve quality.

In a consultation response, the Local Government Association (LGA) rejected the view that the 23% reduction in fees for 2018/19 had affected the core work of external auditors, who provide an opinion on annual council accounts and a conclusion on authorities’ arrangements for securing value for money.
