Labour overtake Tories in Scotland

06 May 2022

Labour have overtaken the Conservatives to become the second biggest party in Scotland after the Scottish National Party (SNP).

In an election that saw the Tories lose more than 60 seats north of the border, the SNP took Dundee City Council, while Labour won West Dunbartonshire Council.

With three Independent councils, the remaining 27 Scots authorities remain in No Overall Control.

In terms of seats, the SNP were up 22 to 453, remaining the largest party. Labour rose by 20 seats to 282, while the Conservatives dropped by 63 to 214.

Labour’s hopes of overtaking the SNP as the largest party on Glasgow City Council fell one seat short of its ambitions.
