Let's have less flash and more substance

Politicians are rarely accused of being prone to understatement. Many are fans of superlatives, with a fondness for announcing policies or initiatives as the most innovative, the first or the greatest – irrespective of subject matter or what it might mean.

Sometimes it’s genuine, sometimes less so. And a lot of the time these statements are made knowing that most people are so busy getting on with their own lives, they won’t check to see if whatever is being announced really is the first or greatest.
