Liz Truss pledges to take £13bn from NHS for social care

Conservative leadership hopeful Liz Truss has vowed to put billions of pounds earmarked for dealing with backlogs in the NHS into social care as a way of freeing up hospital beds.

Speaking at a Conservative Party leadership hustings in the West Midlands yesterday, the foreign secretary said too much of the Government’s £13bn rescue package to tackle COVID backlogs and improve social care was going into the NHS.
