The National Audit Office (NAO) has insisted all government departments need to work towards finding solutions to local authority funding pressures, not just Marsham Street.
Alex Burfitt, an audit manager at the NAO who worked on the latest research about the financial sustainability of local authorities, said he was concerned about the lack of understanding across the Government on the impact of funding cuts to local services.
