New safeguarding system delayed

The full implementation of the replacement of the ‘overly bureaucratic and complicated’ deprivation of liberty safeguards has been delayed by 18 months.

Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS), which will authorise care or treatment to individuals who lack capacity to consent to their arrangements in England and Wales, had been due to come into force in October but this has now been shifted to April 2022.
