Our unsustainable finance system needs a reboot

Another year, another LGiU/The MJ finance survey showing council cuts, fear of financial failure and a downright scepticism that there are any answers on the horizon.

It seems that this year, local government has fallen out of love with business rates. Three-quarters of our survey respondents are not confident that 100% business rate retention will be able to fund the sector.
