Pickles committee calls for more freedoms and resources for councils

A select committee whose members include ex-communities secretary Lord Pickles has said councils must be given new freedoms and resources to support recovery from coronavirus.

The COVID-19 Committee’s report called for a ‘new relationship between central Government and local government … to empower local authority leaders to reimagine and regenerate their towns and cities following the pandemic’.
