Councils will need a cash top up if the political turmoil forces the new Prime Minister to delay plans for a three-year Spending Review, Local Government Association (LGA) chairman Lord Porter has warned.
With a Tory party leadership contest just getting started and continuing uncertainty over the likely Brexit outcome, chancellor Philip Hammond’s plan for a full three-year Spending Review going out to consultation before the summer recess and being concluded by the Autumn Budget looks increasingly unstable.
