Pressure put on Treasury for extra COVID cash

The UK’s health agency has been adding to pressure on the Treasury to hand millions of pounds of extra post-COVID funding to councils, The MJ understands.

It is believed that the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has been privately arguing for a transition fund to help local authorities support the national effort to move to the endemic phase.

The pressure comes after local government secretary Michael Gove and health secretary Sajid Javid both wrote to the Treasury in December asking for an extra £100m.
