Sheffield waste management talks continue

Discussions to extend a waste management contract are ongoing between Sheffield City Council and waste management firm Veolia, six months after the council voted to end the contract.

Sheffield City Council’s contract with Veolia was signed in 2001 and was due to run until 2036. However, in January this year, Bryan Lodge, the cabinet member for the environment, said that the contract was no longer viable given the financial challenges the council was facing.
