Spending review: Rishi delivered what we needed, stability

The nature of how modern-day political set-pieces work is that we know of most of the detail in the media before the official launch, with drip-feed announcements in the week leading up to the big statement.

This year, it was clear that unless the chancellor pulled a big rabbit out of the hat, the best we could hope for was stability and some room to manoeuvre next year.In the end, this is precisely what we got.
