The right therapy to save our councils

Local government will face increasing workload pressures in the coming decade, but a vision for an expanded occupational therapy workforce is a key part of the solution, says Karin Orman.

By 2035 the UK population is projected to be more than 70 million. Mental illness will continue to be one of the largest single causes of disability and two-thirds of adults aged over 65 are projected to be living with multiple health conditions by 2035.

This means there will continue to be ever-increasing pressure on social care, education and housing teams in local government, many of whom already have bigger workloads than they can handle.
