Local government finance expert Rob Whiteman has urged the sector to ‘not be defensive’ as ministers plan their new watchdog.
The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) chief executive called for councils to discuss the options for improving the sector’s accountability rather than launch into a ‘knee-jerk negative reaction’.
