We’re in this for the long haul

This summer marks the sixth anniversary of the Jay Report into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham. The report cast a light on a prolonged and catastrophic failure by the local authority and its partners to protect vulnerable children from abuse and sexual violence. However, it also served as a call to arms not only for us, but for many across the local government community, alongside our colleagues in health and the police.

Six years on, Rotherham and most importantly our survivors, continue to live with the consequences of those failures, even though our local services have been rebuilt and the kinds of systemic failings described by Professor Jay are left behind us.
