What’s the right message?

US president Donald Trump has ensured fake news has become a key topic for anyone concerned about a free press and democratic accountability. The tweeting POTUS has fiercely attacked what is now dubbed the MSM (mainstream media). He proclaims he wants to speak to Americans ‘without the filter of fake news’.

While many in UK political circles express outrage at Trump’s seeming contempt for the fourth estate’s role in democracy, he isn’t the only politician who prefers to manage his messaging directly.
