I recently attended a meeting with finance colleagues where we shared key budget issues and outturn figures for 2016/17. I was surprised to learn that our £2m overspend on children’s services on a per capita basis was actually the lowest in the room.
Although there has been a lot in the media on the crisis in social care funding, I think it’s fair to say children’s social care hasn’t had the same level of scrutiny.
