Ministers have proposed cancelling Surrey CC elections for a second year as they launched a consultation on reorganisation options for the county.

Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner postponed 2025 elections for a year in February but this week local government minister Jim McMahon said he expected the only elections in Surrey in May 2026 would be to the shadow unitaries, which would ‘go live' in April 2027.
