At least 145 more council staff are set to be axed across England and Wales. Forest of Dean DC is to cut 30 jobs to avoid a £1.1m budget overspend next year. And Worcester City Council is looking to cut up to 60 posts to help fill a £4.3 budget gap. It is expected that the job losses will affect senior management and back-office staff. Bournemouth Council has blamed a 34% year-on-year fall in planning applications for its decision to axe 13 jobs. The council said it aimed to save £335,000 by shedding eight planning posts and not filling five vacancies. Denbighshire CC will reduce staffing costs by 10% by offering their staff a reduction in hours, flexible retirement and voluntary redundancy. It is consulting on plans to save £5.7m over the next two financial years. Acting chief executive, Alan Evans, said: ‘The situation facing Denbighshire is far from unique – other local authorities are looking at similar schemes.' Forty-five people are to lose their jobs at Amber Valley BC, and 19 of the redundancies will be compulsory. The authority faces a £2.5m shortfall and has blamed below-inflation settlements from the Government.
