Local government contractor, Logica, has announced plans to cut 500 jobs in the UK, in order to revitalise the company and make it more profitable. Chief executive, Andy Green, announced the job losses last week, as part of a £110m restructuring programme. Logica will make around 1,300 people redundant from various offices around the world, including 500 in Britain. ‘Logica is a sharply-focused European business, with strong positions in its key markets and excellent local teams whose members really understand the diversity of European customers,' said Mr Green. ‘We have set out an exciting programme for growth, built on our great strategic position. ‘We will be increasing our investment in growing the Logica business, funded by a cost-cutting programme that will reduce overheads. I am confident this plan will allow us to outperform the market and revitalise Logica, delivering sustained value for shareholders and customers alike.' The MJ reported last month (20 March) that Logica had signed a seven-year deal with Wiltshire CC to streamline frontline services and help with its transition to unitary status. The contract is expected to deliver savings of up to £11m a year, as part of a business management programme. The IT firm also announced last week it had selected BeCrypt's encryption solutions to securely manage a range of different devices. ‘Logica has a formidable reputation for security, not only from a technical perspective, but also for evaluating security products, managing secure implementations and security procedures,' said BeCrypt's EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) sales director, Richard Brooks. ‘The company will be one of the first organisations to implement BeCrypt Trusted Client, to provide innovative, secure mobile working for staff.'
