Authorities ‘are vital port of call for advice about UC’

Universal Credit (UC) recipients who seek advice on managing their money are more likely to turn to local authorities for help than government agencies, new research has revealed.

The research, which was part of the Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) own evaluation of the regime, showed that councils are second only to Citizens’ Advice in providing support and advice to families under the controversial new benefits regime.
