Clarke: Unitarisation vital first step in mayoral talks

Unitarisation of councils will be a ‘vital first step’ for negotiating a series of new mayors within the next decade, local government minister Simon Clarke has said.

In a speech, Mr Clarke said the devolution and local recovery White Paper would ‘provide a roadmap for establishing a series of new mayors within the next 10 years’ and ‘lay a clear path for levelling up every region of our country’.
