Council leader steps down amid bullying probe

A council leader at the centre of bullying allegations has resigned from the role, quit the Labour party and stepped down from the authority.

The departure of the leader of South Tyneside MBC, Cllr Iain Malcolm, comes weeks after chief executive Martin Swales stepped down after 10 years in post.
