Councils left with supermarket bill worth millions

Councils will have to refund supermarkets millions of pounds in business rates following a ruling at the Appeal Court.

Lord Justice Lindblom ruled that separate rates should not be paid on cash machines outside stores, meaning they are in line for a refund on rates dating back to 2010 – estimated to be worth up to £500m.
