Councils lobby for extra support ahead of final finance settlement

Councils have begun 2024 by urgently lobbying Whitehall over extra financial support amid widespread concern the provisional finance settlement falls far short of what’s needed.

The MJ understands districts, counties and large municipalities have all contacted civil servants at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) since local government secretary Michael Gove announced his 2024-25 settlement before Christmas.
