EXCLUSIVE: Legal advice increases doubts over council meeting resumption

Confidential legal advice obtained by the Local Government Association (LGA) has highlighted major issues that could prevent councils from resuming physical and hybrid public meetings, The MJ understands.

Advice provided to all monitoring officers and heads of legal services is believed to suggest that physical meetings are not banned by legislation, with government regulations now allowing indoor gatherings of more than 30 people in specific circumstances as long as public health guidance is followed.
