Councils have warned they may have to reduce welfare spending as part of era-defining cuts to frontline services as the UK hurtles towards recession.
A survey by the District Councils’ Network (DCN) of the impact of soaring pay costs and inflation, seen by The MJ, showed most respondents expect a brutal ‘scaling back’ of essential services and problems with council tax collection.
