End to welfare support threatens council finances

Cutting off pandemic welfare support could lead to ‘disaster’ for families and local government funding, councils have warned.

A survey of 70 members of the District Councils’ Network (DCN) found 93% have seen an increase in demand for help paying council tax during 2020/21 compared to the previous year.
