Essex challenges evidence base for Basildon unitary bid

Essex CC’s leader has questioned the benefits of Basildon BC’s pursuit of unitary status.

Last week, Basildon’s leader, Cllr Gavin Callaghan, announced the council was preparing a business case as the borough was ‘not being prioritised’ and the authority’s ambitions could only be achieved through control of education, highways and transport services - all currently under the county’s remit.
