Experts warn of 'gap' in scrutiny of council finances

An inquiry into council finance has heard warnings of a gap in oversight of the sector.

Experts told the Public Accounts Committee yesterday that local government finances lacked regulation beyond the ultimate sanction of government intervention following the demise of the Audit Commission.
