Government's building safety appointment was 'a mistake', says Porter

Former Local Government Association (LGA) chairman Lord Porter has branded the appointment of Dame Judith Hackitt as government adviser on a new building safety regulator ‘a mistake’.

Speaking to The MJ, he claimed Dame Judith ‘proved herself to be not up to the job’ with her previous review of building regulations and fire safety for ministers.

Lord Porter, the LGA’s building safety spokesman, said: ‘It took the secretary of state to do what was necessary and that was to ban all combustible materials. She should have recommended that.’
