My first column for The MJ dwelt on the significance of names, particularly the status both district and county councils hold as principal authorities in shire counties.
The Department for Communities and Local Government has morphed into the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). There does not seem to be any substance to this change – it was already responsible for housing. It is a presentational shift to demonstrate the importance of the housing agenda to the Government.
