A Burnham-led government urgently needs to set out a timetable for devolution in all areas of England

No10 North should dispense with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government requirement that an area must 'endure an indeterminate phase of foundation strategic authority before being allowed to have an elected mayor', writes Ian Miller.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is going to have to change gear on devolution if we are to see ‘good growth in every postcode'.

With Andy Burnham certain to be Prime Minister, it is not just that MHCLG staff will have to move faster – they may have to move to No10 North in its role as ‘nerve-centre of a rewired Britain'.
