Local devo deals would give counties the levers

Local government has come out of the national political wilderness in recent months, with the chancellor offering some short-term financial comfort for councils, alongside a fresh wave of enthusiasm for devolution.

While genuine decentralisation seems a long way off, we should seek to capitalise on this change of narrative – especially with the devolution agenda having run out of stream in most areas of the country.
