Minister defends voter ID trial

Cabinet Office minister Chloe Smith this week defended Government plans to trial new voter ID systems amid fresh claims the requirement could be discriminatory.

During a House of Commons debate, Ms Smith confirmed new voter ID requirements would go ahead in five areas - Woking, Gosport, Watford, Swindon and Bromley - during next week’s local government elections.
