Reforming council tax will help government level up

Reforming council tax will help the Government deliver its levelling up agenda for the Midlands and the North, according to a new study from the Institute for Fiscal Studies think-tank.

The institute said that for the first time since the mid-2000s when a revaluation was planned but then shelved the Government has a mandate to update the tax, which has eight property bands still based on 1991 prices.
