Rules leave authorities unable to recover council tax debt

Councils have questioned renewed guidance on prosecutions for non-payment of council tax, which some authorities claim leaves them unable to recover huge chunks of debt.

The MJ understands that the District Councils’ Network (DCN) recently asked for council feedback on the legal regime which allows magistrates to impose repayment requirements on people who have not paid their council tax.
