Nottingham City Council has edged closer to issuing a section 114 notice after revealing it still faces a significant in-year deficit despite tightening its purse strings.
A report to the council’s executive board, published on 13 November and due to be discussed next week, reveals that the in-year deficit is now estimated at £23.3m. The report by Ross Brown, Nottingham’s corporate director of finance and section 151 officer, reveals the city faces ‘significant pressures’ from spending on social care, children’s services and temporary accommodation – now common themes across councils.
