Urban authorities have called for a swift business rates reset to help shore up ailing council finances amid further threats of bankruptcy.

The Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities (Sigoma) told The MJ that despite the recent above-inflation local government finance settlement, many councils remain under threat of issuing a section 114 notice, with a slew of effective bankruptcies predicted this autumn unless ministers intervene.
