Tories oust leader as Northants signs off budget

Northamptonshire CC today signed off its redrafted budget – but the council’s leader has been ousted as head of the ruling Conservative group.

Cllr Heather Smith, who has been under pressure since the council imposed the first Section 114 in local government for almost 20 years, lost a vote of no confidence ahead of Northamptonshire’s full council meeting.
