Two million requests for care have been turned down by councils since Prime Minister Boris Johnson pledged to 'fix social care,' new research has revealed today.

Two million requests for care have been turned down by councils since Prime Minister Boris Johnson pledged to 'fix social care,' new research has revealed today.

New analysis for the Care and Support Alliance (CSA) said this was the equivalent of 3,000 every day.

CSA co-chair Caroline Abrahams said the figure was 'mind-blowing'.

She continued: 'Some care will have been essential for all of them to live well and with dignity.

'Without it, their lives will have been diminished in quality and sometimes quantity too, with huge pressure placed on families and friends to try to compensate for the absence of properly funded support.'
