Whitehall stalled for year prior to Northamptonshire intervention

The Government waited for more than a year before intervening over Northamptonshire CC’s financial difficulties, it has emerged.

MPs were told by permanent secretary at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), Melanie Dawes, that the council was given the chance to turn things around during the intervening months.
