Whitehall’s mistreatment of the Windrush generation could swing key council votes in areas with large immigrant populations, senior politicians have warned.
Conservative local government figures and MPs are concerned that immigration errors made at the Home Office and the department’s slow reaction to them means knife-edge council votes, such as those in Wandsworth and Barnet LBCs, could be influenced by a public backlash against national government.
